Consoles are They Worth the Hype

Posted in: PS3 |

I have a Playstation 3 and I like it a lot. However, I was sitting there thinking the other day, was I overlooking a great games console in my lap. If you have read any of my other articles, you would know the reason I prefer the Playstation 3 was for its media capabilities as well as its game playing abilities. Now I’m starting to rethink my decision

I’m sitting in my office typing away on my 2.8 GHz AMD PC it wasn’t so long ago this was my gaming passion. I would while away the evening playing games like empire earth, call of duty and a big favourite operation flashpoint. Before I got a 42 inch LCD TV connecting the PC to the TV was not an option but now things have changed. I can easily connect my PC and the picture is great.

I’m not rethinking my decision because I have swung to the dark side and want an Xbox 360 instead, as far as consoles go I prefer the PS3. I am rethinking my decision because a PC would do everything I want from a console as well as a lot more. I want to be able to watch movies play music as well as play games.

I started feeling like this about consoles, after I was reading up on the differences on playing GRAW2 on PC Vs Xbox 360 for example on the PC version you can order individual members of your team to do tasks on the console versions you have to order them as a whole team. After this, I felt cheated why was the PC game more in depth then the console version. Consoles seem to be limited with regard to level of control and game play.

Now maybe we should not be looking at the consoles themselves but at a home targeted operating system to run games and media with the lowest overhead from the OS. Most of us don’t need the extra services that run on windows. We want to play music watch films and most of all play games. For the first 2 options with a little bit of know how Linux would do a great job but unfortunately the majority of games are produced for the windows platform. I’m no programmer but how hard would it be to produce a streamlined operating system optimised for the home media / games market? Sony have done a good effort with the PS3 front end but it doesn’t work as well as Windows or the Ubuntu (Linux distro) front end.

I still play my PS3 but I miss games that give you that level of control and interaction. I miss playing RTS games and first person shooters with a mouse. Most of all I miss editing my own missions witch never seems to be an option on consoles.

This generation of consoles cannot compete with a PC with some great games that cannot be played effectively on a console at this moment in time with games like Eve-online and the RTS genre games. The PC, or should is say the PC style of gaming with a mouse and keyboard. I believe is the best way of gaming.

Maybe all that is needed is the ability to use the mouse and keyboard within games and some good RTS games and of course the ability to mod games I know that would make me happy, as a gamer.

Internet Business Tools

Posted in: Geek Tools |

The owner of a home business that uses a computer would do well to learn her or his way around the hardware and software. There is nothing more frustrating than not knowing how something works! This can make a more efficient computer system, saving time and money. The first step to a more efficient computer system for your home business is to update your PC or laptop’s software and hardware on a regular basis. This will keep your computer a state of the art product, and the technology will help you in your efforts to be more productive every day.

Updating software is a breeze, with most computer systems and software systems working hand in glove to prompt you to download the upgrades and a one-click installation that, with typical broadband speed, will complete in less than a minute. Some software programs upgrade in the background without your even being aware of it or even noticing any system slow down while you use your computer to work at your home business.

Hardware upgrades are a little harder to keep track of. A home business owner who is less than a geek should find a beginning level computer magazine that will tell the owner the latest products as well as their features and uses. Handy peripherals come along brand new just about every day. Things like Web cams and CD burners can help facilitate a business with the computer.

Getting online without any interruption – either through broadband or DSL – is important to a computer home business. A Home business owner wouldn’t want a consumer getting a busy signal when it’s time to call and buy, nor would she or want to spend quality sales or marketing time waiting for a home business computer to upload.

A good Antivirus program is a must-the business owner doesn’t have to be a security expert but does have to have a complete understanding of the basics of the threats to the computer system they depend on to keep the business up and running. They should understand the meaning of such threats as viruses, Trojan horses, worms, phishing and spoofing. Virus protection, and other common security software is a must for a home business computer. While the most common security products are Norton and MacAfee there are some free security products that are excellent protection as well – AVG, SpyBot Search and Destroy and AdAware.

The owner of a home business computer can save a lot of time, energy and repair fees by knowing the up to date ins and outs of computer maintenance and troubleshooting. Instead of having a computer technician having to come and sort out a minor problem the business owner can fix it themselves-saving time and money.

A crucial point for an Internet business owner is to make regular back-ups of the most important data on his or her computer. As the whole business is on the computer-a hard drive that fails can do the business great harm if there is no backup of the most important data.

Using Security Cameras for Home Protection

Posted in: Camera |

Crime continues to rise not just in a physical sense but also in the world of white-collar business. Security cameras have become a worthy ally to many in the detection and prevention of crime. A simple observation of the city will tell you security cameras are everywhere these days.

Once used in their infancy as a traffic-monitoring device, remote security cameras are becoming the weapons of choice in the war against terrorism and crime around the world.

Wireless Security Cameras

If you need to partially conceal your cameras from view, wireless security cameras are the way to go. Wireless security cameras have become very popular because they can literally be put anywhere you want since you don’t have to worry about wires.

Additionally, wireless security cameras are becoming more and more affordable as the technology makes leaps and bounds- both in terms of the cutting edge new features and in the manufacturing and design process.

Home Security Cameras

Like most technology, the cost of home security has come down in recent years and the outdoor security cameras are no exception. With the right set-up the signal from your security cameras can be fed to your television for convenience – you don’t have to go to a special monitor to see the picture.

The best way that parents can protect their children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and still have a life is to install security cameras as part of their security systems.

Home security cameras won’t just catch the worst possible acts of child violence and abuse, but also irresponsible babysitters who may not be cruel but are far too careless to be given the responsibility of watching your child.

Security Camera Location

To ensure the most effective surveillance of your home, the placement of your security cameras is of utmost importance. The proper placement of security cameras coupled with a recorder, permits you to maintain a record of many activities in your home, and you will be able to easily identify a person by the clothes he or she is wearing.

Don’t Bust the Budget

For those who are on a budget and can’t afford or don’t want to spend the time setting up a security system or hire someone else to do it, there are temporary measures you can use. You can consider using fake security cameras for the job if money is a major consideration in your home security budget, and you just can’t afford the real thing yet.

Whatever the variety and model that exist in the market for real surveillance cameras, dummy security cameras are there with the same exact look and feel.

Dummy security cameras can be fitted to the interior of your home as well as mounted on the exterior. You can use dummy cameras in various places on your lawn or patio, which can act as a sort of “scarecrow” for would-be thieves.

Out Door Cameras

For the best security system possible, you can have outdoor security cameras installed. Your outdoor security cameras can come with sunshades to protect the equipment from too much sunlight during daytime.

A large number of exterior cameras are weather proof, waterproof and some are even “hammer” proof. Some of the more sophisticated outdoor security cameras have an infrared option, which enables you to see what’s going on in the dark.

Security at School

The surveillance cameras allow school security personnel to do more job-specific work, which saves money in the long run since the mundane tasks will be performed by the security system. As mentioned, one of the best features about wireless security cameras are that they can be easily installed almost anywhere.

The cameras deter crime and may lead some students to confess to infractions that weren’t even caught on the security cameras.

Remote Cameras

Furthermore, remote security cameras are being used more and more to watch the habits of people in crowded areas, subway stations, airports and others to try to stop a terrorist attack before it happens. Especially active in purchasing business security cameras are large casinos such as in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

In conclusion there is no doubt that society is still getting used to the presence of security cameras and there are many that don’t like them. However home and office security cameras and basic surveillance tips will greatly improve the safety of you and your loved ones at home and on the job.

Picking The Best Gaming Console For A Gift Idea

Posted in: PS3 |
by Chris Channing

You may be confused what to get a “gamer” as a gift for a birthday or other special occasions. After all, consoles can be very expensive when on a limited budget- so picking a console that the recipient doesn’t enjoy as much as others can take the value of a gift away. Buying a console is by no means a hard task, however.

The Xbox 360 is among the highest selling game consoles, thanks to its competitive pricing and its wide support. The Xbox 360 did have a bit of trouble with faulty systems breaking down, but it seems that Microsoft has started to improve Xbox designs and cut down on the percent of failures. So long as you decide to get a new model, you should be fine.

If you don’t mind paying a little bit more than the Xbox 360, you can obtain a PS3. The PS3, also known as the PlayStation 3, is a Sony product that has neat features such as the ability to play Blu-ray DVD discs. In addition, the PS3 has many games that other consoles don’t have, thanks to exclusive agreements to video game developers. Unlike Xbox Live, PS3 owners won’t have to pay for online play.

The Nintendo Wii is another contender, and is most known for it being one of the least expensive next generation consoles. The Nintendo Wii is great for families- since people of all ages can join in on the fun. Even the elderly like to play a good game of bowling with the special Wii remotes, as it resembles the real act of bowling without having to leave your living room.

Last generation consoles are still in demand, but to a lesser extent. The PlayStation 2, for instance, has dropped dramatically in price- making it affordable to anyone at all. Some games such as Final Fantasy 12 are also only available on the PS2, making it a highly sought after console at times. The original Xbox doesn’t have the same support, since the Xbox 360 will play most older Xbox games.

Going even further back into time, you will find classics such as the NES or SNES, The good news is that you don’t have to look hard trying to find a console that still works- you can buy old games such as this via the Nintendo Wii Store if you would be so inclined. Microsoft has launched similar programs with game developers to bring nostalgia to the consoles.

Closing Comments

If you need assistance in your decision, do be sure to ask a worker in the electronics section of the store you visit. Most often, stores will only hire those who are hip on the latest in video game technology- so don’t be afraid to rely on them for advice.
