Le Ultime Novità Della Guerra Tra Le Console

Posted in: PS3 |

From Pc to Web Server in 5 Minutes

Posted in: Geek Tools |

There are times when you either don’t have a web host or you don’t want to mess up your live site but you need to play around with your website. We show you how to turn your PC into a fully functional web and database server – all in less than 5 minutes!

Any web server which is going to host dynamic, database driven websites needs three things – the web server itself, a scripting language and a database server.

For our web server we’re going to be using Apache – the web server that powers a huge percentage of the web.

Secondly for our scripting language we’re going to use PHP which drives millions of websites.

Lastly for our database server we’re going to be using the widely used MySQL database server.

Now installing and configuring Apache, MySQL and PHP doesn’t sound like fun but the great thing is we can download them all as one easy to install package and because we’re going to use Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP the package has been named WAMP.

We first need to download WAMP from http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php Once downloaded double-click the WAMP file to begin the installation.

Accept all the default installation options (choose whether to have WAMP start automatically with Windows or not and enter your email address when prompted) and then WAMP will launch leaving you with nothing more to see than the WAMP status icon in your system tray.

Now it’s not much to look at but you have just installed a webserver, scripting language, database server plus a PHP based database administration tool called phpMyAdmin which is some achievement even for an experienced Geek.

Left-click the WAMP status icon and put the server online and then click it again and select LOCALHOST and you’ll see the default web page showing you the thing is working. From here you can create as many websites as you like by creating subfolders in C:WAMPWWW and use phpMyAdmin to create databases so can install complex scripts such as the content management system Joomla or Ecommerce package OSCommerce – Anything is possible!

Now you could open up your PC to access from the Internet and become your own host but you can’t beat hosting your site with a proper hosting company for speed, reliability and security so I’d keep my WAMP server for testing and experimenting with developing your sites.

How Much Does a Camera Really Cost? Make Sure you Budget Right Before Buying a New Camera

Posted in: Camera |

Digital cameras are not different than other consumer electronic products. The cost of ownership is not limited to the sum paid to purchase the camera. In most cases consumers find themselves spending more money on accessories and other additional products. Failing to budget for those extra expenses can result in buying a camera just to find out it is not operable without spending more.

When buying a new camera consumers usually compare the features of different cameras and the prices at different stores. However often consumers fail to check what is included with the camera they plan to buy or more importantly what is not included. Some attention to details is needed in order to assess the real cost of the camera and to budget accordingly.

Following is a simple list of what to check and include in the budget of a new camera:

Memory card: All digital cameras store photos on a memory device. Usually a removable memory card is used. Most cameras include a basic small memory card. For example many cameras today come with 32MB of memory. Such a small memory card can hold a small number of photos and is not practical. When buying a camera always make sure to check how much memory is included. Then assess how much memory you will need (for example if you are going to take a lot of photos and wont have a computer handy to dump them onto you will need a bigger memory card). The next step would be to check the prices of such memory cards and to budget it in your camera purchase.

Batteries: All cameras include a battery that powers it up. There are many types of batteries for example standard AA or AAA or proprietary rechargeable batteries. Regardless of the type of battery when purchasing a camera check what batteries it uses and what batteries are included. Also check what the estimated battery life is. For example you probably need to buy an extra battery if your photo sessions are longer than the battery life. Make sure you budget the price of additional batteries before purchasing the camera.

PC connectivity: Any digital camera will eventually be connected to a PC in order to download photos. The most common methods of connectivity are USB and plugging the camera’s memory card directly to the PC. Make sure that your camera includes the USB cable needed to connect to the PC. If you prefer connecting the removable memory directly to your PC budget an adaptor that can bridge between the memory card and the slots available in your PC.

Carrying case: Most cameras do not include a carrying case. For many consumers a carrying case is not a must have accessory. If you want to have a carrying case make sure you shop for the right one before buying the camera and that you budget its cost.

Lenses: High-end cameras such as digital SLR often require additional lenses. When reviewing your camera check what lenses come with the camera. If you are an amateur or a professional photographer and you know you will need more lenses shop around for lenses that fit your camera and budget their prices. Lenses can be very expensive and sometimes can cost more than the camera itself. For example when buying an SLR camera for outdoor photography that requires zoom lenses make sure you budget such lenses that fit the camera you plan to buy.

External Flash: In most cases an external flash is not needed. However it is good to check what external flashe devices are compatible with your camera and what their price range is. If you are an amateur or a professional photographer and you know that you will need an external flash in addition to your camera’s built-in one make sure that you shop for one that can work with the camera and budget its cost before purchasing the camera. External flash devices prices can vary and can be a costly addition. Some high-end external flashes can cost more than the camera itself.

In conclusion it is important to remember to budget not only the basic camera price but also the prices of the mandatory and optional accessories. For example if you are going to take indoor photos and you need a large memory card and an external flash make sure that you budget those accessories before purchasing the camera. Failing to do so can result in spending your entire budget on the camera just to find out it is useless without some more essential accessories and more spending.

The Latest News On The Console War

Posted in: PS3 |

Just a month has passed from the well-expected Las Vegas Ces, where the most futuristic technology products are exposed to the big public. Ces is the world’s biggest technology exhibition and every year here it is possible to see the latest news in the technology and electronic field.

The International CES features 2,700 exhibitors spanning 30 product categories from markets including audio, digital content creation and distribution, digital imaging, embedded technology, gaming (digital entertainment), high-performance audio & home theater, video, home networking, in-vehicle technology and wireless. You can really find and see everything in the electronic field.

What emerges clearly in these months is that also technology products are suffering a bit from the economic crisis, but despite this fact also this year news don’t miss. This is not just the year of the economic crisis, but it is also the year of netbook, home entertainment, of smartphone and touchscreen, the touchable screen that substitutes the traditional physical keyboard.

And it really seems that there are no crisis in the video game and console market. During the holiday season the Nintendo console, Nintendo Wii, sold very well, and always for this holiday it was foreseen the coming out of the new model of Nintendo DSi with many new functionalities as a camera and a music player, on which it is always possible to use the supercard one.

Even the Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sold around 28 million until the end of 2008, the best year ever for this console. Also the Sony’s PS3 has registered a huge increase: around 40% increase from one year ago, with around 20 million Playstation 3 sold. In addition PS3 is the only console in the market that has installed also a Blu-ray player. Sony, in fact, didn’t miss the chance to reaffirm the superiority of its console over the others, especially over its direct competitor, Xbox 360.
Microsoft followed suit, pointing out that Xbox’s sales are going really great, that the cutting prices policy has worked out very well and so for now an adaptation to the Blu-ray technology is absolutely
out of the question.

But the most played console of all time is always the Sony PS2. As a matter of fact Wii now is considered to be this generation’s PS2. Even if for the moment nothing has been able to surpass PS2’s sales in the long period. But Wii already thrashes the sales of all its competitors, PS3 and Xbox 360, and now Nintendo resolved an even more ambitious purpose. And it seems they also have the qualifications to reach it. Also the other Nintendo console, the portable Nintendo Dsi is doing great and it is receiving ample consensus. In both cases the reason behind this huge success is that the two console are addressed, both for their style, format and for the type of video game created for them, to a very wide public that involves young people, both male and female, but also adults and even, why not, seniors.

Back to the Blu-ray, instead, it is still not clear if it will be a nine-days’ wonder, but a confirmed data is that Blu-ray’s sales almost quadruplicated in the last months. Blu-ray is surely a very fashionable technology, but still an elite technology, especially due to its high cost.
